Turrones & Polvorones

Turron is possibly the most Spanish of all Christmas treats, but certainly not the only one. Polvorones, mazapanes and mantecados are essential too!
Polvorones and mantecados are popular holiday delicacies enjoyed throughout Spain, especially during Christmas holidays.
A polvoron is a type of heavy, soft, and very crumbly Spanish shortbread cookie made of flour, sugar, milk, and almonds. Typically they are long and oval-shaped. Mantecados on the other hand are rounder and their colour and texture can change depending on their flavour, whether lemon, chocolate, pastry, etc.

Ones of Spain's favourite cookies, they are traditionally prepared for holidays but they can be enjoyed all year round! Mantecados are small shortbread cookies, the name comes from the Spanish word 'manteca' which means fat or lard that helps provide the proper texture and consistency of a crumbly shortbread cookie. Polvorones are a type of mantecados that contain almonds.
